A beautiful view turns an ordinary dinner into a real occasion. In this guide we've gathered the best restaurants with a view in Montenegro: terraces above the Bay of Kotor, tables right at the water's edge, and sunset panoramas over the Adriatic. We picked places for a romantic dinner for two, for an anniversary, and for that one evening when you've decided to pop the question.
We're Mariia Sosnina and Vasilii Khmelev, and we've lived and shot in Montenegro for more than 10 years. We often photograph dates, anniversaries and proposals in these exact restaurants, so we're not going off someone else's reviews but our own experience: which spot has which view, how intimate it feels, and what occasion each one suits. We've grouped the selection by area so it's easier to pick somewhere close to you.
In short: how to choose and what's where
- Bay of Kotor: the most postcard-perfect views of the water, mountains and fortress walls, from Kotor and Dobrota to Perast.
- Budva Riviera: sunset panoramas, open sea and the view of Sveti Stefan island.
- Tivat & Porto Montenegro: a modern marina, yachts and stylish terraces by the water.
- Luštica Bay: a quiet marina and fine dining for a special evening.
- For a proposal: take a table by the water or with a panorama, and book a sunset slot in advance.
- Who gets what: intimate and quiet for two, bright and panoramic for a celebration, right by the water for a slow evening.

What to look for when choosing a restaurant with a view
Before you book a table, keep a few simple things in mind. They're what decides how the evening turns out.
- View and sunset timing. The most romantic light comes about an hour before sunset. Arrive around then and ask for a table with a view over the water.
- Booking. In season, from June to September, the best tables by the water go early. Book a few days ahead, and for a special evening a week or more in advance.
- Dress code. Smart casual works almost everywhere. At hotel restaurants people dress up a little more in the evening.
- Season and terrace. The best views run from May to October, when the terraces are open. In winter some restaurants close or seat guests indoors only.
- Price level. Restaurants with a view are usually above average on price, and fine-dining spots more so. Check current prices and menus when you book.

A restaurant for a marriage proposal
A dinner with a view is one of the most foolproof settings for a proposal. A few simple steps will make the evening perfect.
- Table and timing. Book ahead and ask for a spot with a view over the water or the sunset, ideally in a quiet corner of the terrace.
- The moment. Arrange the details with the restaurant: dessert with the ring, a glass of sparkling wine, or a quiet signal to the waiter.
- Light. Plan the big moment for sunset, when both the view and the light are working for you.
If you want more than the view from your table, and the nature around it too, take a look at our guide to the best proposal spots in Montenegro. A boat proposal in Perast deserves an evening of its own, and if you've chosen a resort, our round-up of a proposal in Budva will come in handy.
We're Mariia Sosnina and Vasilii Khmelev, and we photograph proposals all over Montenegro. We can quietly capture the moment right there in the restaurant: you're focused on each other while we catch the real emotions from the side, without drawing attention. Working with Mariia was an absolute masterclass in professionalism and creative vision. I approached her with the high-stakes task of capturing my surprise engagement, and from our very first interaction, she proved to be an indispensable partner in the planning process.
What truly sets Mariia apart is her dedication to the "above and beyond." Because this was a surprise for my girlfriend, the logistics were complex, yet Mariia handled everything with expert precision. She was incredibly helpful from start to finish, specifically when it came to scouting the ideal location. Her deep knowledge of Montenegro’s most picturesque corners allowed us to find a setting that was both intimate and visually breathtaking.
On the day of the proposal, she was perfectly positioned to capture the moment without spoiling the surprise. The final photos are nothing short of spectacular; we are so happy with how she balanced the natural beauty of the landscape with the genuine emotion of the occasion. Mariia is a gifted artist and a meticulous planner, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

As I read through all the reviews, I can only confirm every single point. Mariia played a huge role in the success of our engagement. From the very beginning, the communication was fast and easy, and everything from payment to planning was handled smoothly and professionally.
She was incredibly responsive to our individual wishes and provided organizational support whenever we needed it.
But most importantly – her skills as a photographer are truly outstanding. The photos turned out absolutely beautiful, beyond anything we could have imagined.
What made the experience even better was that Mariia had everything under control – lighting, angles, timing – which allowed us to fully focus on each other and enjoy the moment. She stayed discreetly in the background, yet perfectly captured every important detail.
Thanks to Mariia, we have these memories preserved forever. We will never forget this moment, and we can wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone!

We had an absolutely amazing experience with Maria and Vasilii for our engagement photos in Montenegro. They went above and beyond to make our day special. They met us right by the cruise ship and drove us to the beautiful town of Perast. From there, we took a boat to a stunning island, which made for some incredible photo opportunities. After the shoot, they even waited patiently while we enjoyed a leisurely lunch.
What really impressed us was how quickly they delivered a few stunning photos within just a day, allowing us to share those special moments right away. The rest of the pictures, which were equally amazing, were sent to us within two weeks.
The whole experience was seamless, and I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. We will definitely reach out to them next time we’re in Montenegro. Highly recommended!
