Yes, you can have an Indian wedding in Montenegro, even with 100–200 guests, and the largest venues take 300 guests or more. A celebration with a mehndi, a sangeet, the ceremony and the reception lasts at least two days. A two-day wedding costs from €70,000, and from there the price depends heavily on how many guests you invite and what you plan.
We live in Montenegro and shoot weddings here, so we know the local venues and their rules well. Below you’ll find short answers to the questions couples from the UK and elsewhere ask most often when they’re choosing a place for an Indian wedding abroad. For an overview of the kinds of venues on offer, see our guide to wedding venues in Montenegro.
The short version
- A two-day Indian wedding costs from €70,000, and the price rises with the number of guests, events and entertainment.
- The big venues hold 300 guests or more, such as the ballroom at Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay (up to 350) or the Adriatic Garden at One&Only Portonovi (up to 600).
- Venues are booked for at least two days, and you can hold different events at different places on different days.
- Guests with an Indian or Pakistani passport and a valid UK, Schengen or US visa can enter without a Montenegrin visa and stay up to 30 days (or until the visa expires, if that’s sooner).
- The best months for a wedding are May, June and September. July and August are hot and busy with tourists.
- Only a civil registration is legally binding, and you apply for it at least 15 days ahead.

Can Montenegro host an Indian wedding for 100–200 guests?
Montenegro can host an Indian wedding for 100–200 guests: there aren’t many venues of that size, but they do exist, and the largest take 300 guests or more. The harder part is finding a place that will let you have it for several days in a row.
Hotels and resorts
| Venue | Where | Guests | What matters for a multi-day wedding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regent Porto Montenegro | Tivat, Porto Montenegro | up to 300 at the Summer Garden | The hotel has 175 rooms. The Teodo Ballroom seats 140, but it gets tight once you add a dance floor. The ceremony can take place on the Jetty 2 pier, which the Porto Montenegro marina rents out for weddings. |
| Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay | Stoliv, Bay of Kotor | up to 350 in the ballroom | The ballroom splits into two, and you can buy out the whole hotel: up to 252 rooms for your guests. |
| Venue | Where | Guests | What matters for a multi-day wedding |
|---|---|---|---|
| One&Only Portonovi | Kumbor, Herceg Novi | up to 600 in the Adriatic Garden, up to 300 in the Boka Garden | The resort has several venues of different sizes, from restaurants for 200–250 to a garden for 600, so every event gets a space of its own. |
| Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Teuta Kotor Bay | Risan, Bay of Kotor | the hotel doesn’t publish capacity | A new five-star hotel that opened in 2026 and hosts weddings. Your planner will find out how many guests it can take for your celebration. |
Villas, restaurants and a fortress
| Venue | Where | Guests | What matters for a multi-day wedding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adriatica | Kamenari, Bay of Kotor | 100 on the lower terrace, up to 50 on the upper one | The lower terrace still leaves room for a dance floor, and the ceremony takes place on the pier, looking out over the sea and the mountains. |
| Talići Hill | Villa above Sutomore | up to 300 on the villa grounds | The villa sleeps up to 18 people, and from May to mid-October it’s let for a minimum of three nights at weekends. |
| Budva Citadel | Budva Old Town | 100–150 | Better suited to a smaller wedding. The fortress closes to tourists for your celebration, and the space sometimes has to be reset between the ceremony, dinner and dancing. |
How much does an Indian wedding in Montenegro cost?
An Indian wedding in Montenegro costs from €70,000 for two days. From there the price depends heavily on the number of guests, extra events and entertainment, and there’s no upper limit. A multi-day celebration costs more than a typical wedding for a simple reason: everything a one-day wedding needs once, you need again for every day.
- The venue is booked for at least two days, not for one evening.
- Food is prepared for all your guests at every event, from the mehndi to the reception.
- Decor changes with each event, because a mehndi, a sangeet and the wedding itself look completely different.
- Music is booked for every evening, whether that’s a DJ or live musicians.
- Hair and make-up are done for the bride and close family before each event.
- The cake is ordered for the wedding day.
- Fireworks are added if you’d like a grand finale.
- Accommodation is booked for your guests for several nights.
A planner will work out the exact quote once they’ve checked available dates and terms with the venue and know how many guests and events you’re planning. For what goes into the budget of a typical wedding, see our guide to the cost of a wedding in Montenegro.
Want to know what your own wedding would cost?
Tell us how many guests and days you have in mind. We’ll recommend a trusted local planner, who will check available dates and terms with the venues and put together a quote for your celebration. And we’ll take care of the photos and video.
Where do you hold the mehndi, the sangeet and the wedding itself?
You can hold the mehndi, sangeet, ceremony and reception at one venue or spread them across several. If a few events fall on the same day, one venue is easier, because nobody has to ferry guests from place to place. If the events are spread over different days, each one can have its own venue: a mehndi at a villa, say, and the wedding at a hotel by the sea.
For a celebration over several days, hotels with plenty of rooms work well: guests stay right where the events happen. Before you book, ask how late music can play at the venue. At Talići Hill, for example, music in the garden stops at midnight, and then the party moves indoors.
Can you get Indian catering for a wedding in Montenegro?
You can get Indian catering for a wedding in Montenegro: there’s an experienced caterer here who cooks Indian dishes, and your planner will help you make the arrangements with them.
Check early whether the venue allows outside caterers, because some only let their own kitchen do the cooking. It’s best to agree the menu for every day, vegetarian dishes included, before you pay the venue deposit.
How will guests get to Montenegro, and do they need a visa?
Guests fly into one of Montenegro’s two international airports: Tivat on the Bay of Kotor, or Podgorica. There are direct flights from London to both. Flights to Tivat are seasonal: British Airways from Heathrow and easyJet from Gatwick. Ryanair flies to Podgorica from Stansted, including in winter. Check the schedules for your dates with the airlines.
UK citizens don’t need a visa. Guests with an Indian or Pakistani passport can enter without a Montenegrin visa if they hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa, or an EU residence permit. In that case they can stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days (or until the visa expires, if that’s sooner).
Without such a visa, relatives will need a Montenegrin visa. In India, applications are accepted by the VFS Global visa centre in New Delhi. Pakistan has no such centre yet. So allow plenty of time for the visa. |
When is the best time for an Indian wedding in Montenegro?
The best time for an Indian wedding in Montenegro is May, June or September: it’s warm, but with less heat and fewer tourists than in July and August. Summer days are hot, so the mehndi, the ceremony and anything else held outdoors are best planned for later in the day.
What’s the best way to photograph a multi-day Indian wedding?
A multi-day Indian wedding is best photographed in an artistic reportage style: that way you get the details, the portraits and the group photos at every ceremony. We shoot weddings as a team of two, photo and video, and this is exactly how we work.
“At a wedding like this, something is always happening: rituals, dancing, dozens of relatives. The trick is never to stop the celebration for a shot, but to keep up with it.”Mariia Sosnina
No ostentatious staging, but with humour and meaning: you don’t need to pose, just relax and be yourselves. And our wedding film keeps the real sound: your vows, the laughter and your guests’ toasts. Take a look at our wedding portfolio and send us your dates, and we’ll let you know if we’re free.
Is a Hindu ceremony in Montenegro legally recognised?
A Hindu ceremony in Montenegro isn’t legally recognised as a marriage: only a civil registration with the matičar, the municipal registrar, has legal force here. So couples either register their marriage at home before the trip, or register it in Montenegro and hold the Hindu ceremony as a symbolic one. The application goes to the municipality at least 15 days in advance. We’ve gathered every document and step in our guide to documents for a wedding in Montenegro.
Do you need a wedding planner for an Indian wedding in Montenegro?
An Indian wedding in Montenegro really does need a planner: a celebration over several days for 100–200 guests from abroad is not something you can pull together on your own. Here’s what a planner takes on:
- Dates and venue. Finds out where several days in a row are free and negotiates the hire.
- Food and venue rules. Finds a caterer with an Indian menu and checks how late music can play and what else the venue allows.
- Guests. Books accommodation for everyone and plans airport transfers.
- The budget. Prices everything for your number of guests and days, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.
We’ve covered what to look for in our guide on how to choose a wedding planner in Montenegro. Or keep it simple: write to us, and we’ll recommend a trusted local planner.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have a wedding for 300 guests in Montenegro?
Yes, but there are not many venues of that size. Spaces for 300 guests or more include the ballroom at Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay (up to 350), the Boka Garden (up to 300) and the Adriatic Garden (up to 600) at One&Only Portonovi, and the Summer Garden at Regent Porto Montenegro (up to 300). Book dates for a wedding this size as early as you can.
Where do guests stay at an Indian wedding in Montenegro?
Guests usually stay close to the venue. Regent Porto Montenegro has 175 rooms, and Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay can be bought out entirely, which gives you up to 252 rooms. That way many guests stay right where the celebration takes place, and the planner finds accommodation for the rest.
How far ahead should you start planning an Indian wedding in Montenegro?
Ideally one to two years ahead. There are not many venues for 200 guests or more, and dates in May, June and September are taken early. The application for civil registration comes much later, at least 15 days before the date.
Can you marry legally at home and celebrate in Montenegro?
Yes, you can. You register the marriage at home before the trip, then hold a symbolic ceremony and all the other events in Montenegro. That way you do not need to collect documents for the Montenegrin municipality.
Mountains above the sea, old fortresses, villas with gardens and hotels with room for the whole family: Montenegro has everything a big celebration over several days needs. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Montenegro for every day of your wedding, we’re Mariia Sosnina and Vasilii Khmelev, and we’d love to capture it all in photos and film, from the mehndi to the last dance.
