Regent Porto Montenegro Wedding: a Hotel Right in Tivat’s Yacht Marina

Want a wedding by the water where your guests sleep a few steps from the dinner tables and the whole party ends the night strolling along the waterfront, glass in hand? Then take a close look at Regent Porto Montenegro. The hotel sits right inside the Porto Montenegro yacht marina in Tivat, on the shore of Tivat Bay. The beauty of a Regent Porto Montenegro wedding is that the ceremony, the dinner, the guest rooms and the evening stroll all happen in one place. So a Porto Montenegro wedding runs almost entirely on foot, with no coaches and no long drives in between.

So here's the honest version, not the glossy brochure: which halls and gardens the hotel has and how many guests each one takes, where else in the marina you can hold the ceremony, how to plan the day around the light and what the budget is made of. Most importantly, we explain why a wedding like this is almost impossible to pull together without a planner.

What Regent Porto Montenegro is like

Porto Montenegro, the yacht marina in Tivat, feels like a small village of its own by the water: a long waterfront promenade, berths, cafés and restaurants. The hotel opens straight onto the berths. Tivat Bay spreads out all around, and behind it rise the mountains, which turn into a soft, warm backdrop for photos in the evening. The hotel itself has gardens, pools, a ballroom and the Murano restaurant. If you picture a waterside wedding at a modern hotel rather than a party inside old stone walls, put the Regent at the top of your list.

Regent wedding venues: the halls and gardens

Seven spaces inside the hotel work for a wedding, and they vary hugely in size, from a winter garden for your very closest people to a large garden for three hundred guests. We checked the figures in the table against the hotel's official weddings page.

For a standing reception, the same spaces fit noticeably more people: up to 250 in the Teodo Ballroom and The Garden, and up to 100 at Murano. The Teodo Ballroom also has a pool deck where you can host cocktails for 150 guests.

Which space suits your guest count

It's easiest to start with the number of guests and only then fall in love with a view. Roughly like this:

• 150 to 300 guests. You need the Summer Garden: it's the only space where everyone fits at one dinner.
• 100 to 140 guests. Dinner in the Teodo Ballroom, with the ceremony outdoors in a garden or on the pier by the hotel.
• Up to 60 guests. An intimate dinner at the Murano restaurant, or in The Garden if there are no more than 50 of you.
• Just your nearest and dearest. The Regent Lounge for 30 guests or the Winter Garden for 20.

And be sure to talk through a backup plan for rain: besides the gardens, the hotel has indoor halls too.

Beyond the hotel: Jetty 2 and Marina Park in Porto Montenegro

A Porto Montenegro wedding doesn't have to stay inside the hotel. The marina has two more venues where you can move the ceremony or the whole celebration:

• Jetty 2. This pier starts right in front of the Regent and reaches out into the marina. It's used for wedding ceremonies and receptions, so you'll have water all around you, and your guests are only a couple of minutes' walk from dinner at the hotel.
• Marina Park. A large lawn above the marina where a 240 m² marquee goes up. It seats up to 200 guests at tables or holds 350 standing, so Marina Park works well for a big wedding under canvas.

Both venues belong to the marina, not to the hotel. That means their dates and terms are requested separately, and then everything has to come together into one day with the catering, service and decor. That's exactly the job of a planner.

If you'd prefer a different feel

The Regent suits couples who love a modern waterfront and the wide open bay. If a small hotel and an intimate celebration sound more like you, look at the boutique hotel Forza Terra in Dobrota, near Kotor, which takes about 50 to 100 guests. How a Regent Porto Montenegro wedding day works

The whole day on foot, inside the marina

The Regent's biggest advantage is that you don't have to stitch the day together from different spots along the coast. You get ready in your room, the guests come down to the ceremony from theirs, and it's a couple of minutes' walk from the garden or the pier to dinner. No coaches between venues, no waiting for relatives who are running late. And once the heat eases in the evening, a stroll along the waterfront simply becomes part of the celebration.

A sample wedding day timeline

You'll set the exact schedule together with your planner. But we build a summer day around the light, not the clock. Roughly like this:

1. Afternoon, getting ready. You get ready in your hotel room while we photograph the details and the first nervous, happy moments.
2. Around 5 pm, the ceremony. By then the hottest hours are behind you.
3. Right after, cocktails. Guests gather with a glass in the garden or on the terrace, and we photograph the hugs, the congratulations and the unposed moments in between.
4. Golden hour, couple portraits. Half an hour for just the two of you on the waterfront and by the water, before the sun goes behind the mountains.
5. Evening, dinner. The reception in a garden or in the Teodo Ballroom.
6. Late evening, the party. First dance, cake, toasts and dancing.

In Tivat the sun slips behind the mountains before the official sunset, so we work out the portrait time in advance for your date and the exact spot. By September the whole schedule moves to earlier hours.

Couple portraits in the marina

The bay here is more open than around Kotor, so your photos get plenty of water and sky. The yachts stay a light detail in the background, and the two of you are always the heart of the frame.

Where your guests stay and how to get there

The easiest option is to put your guests up at the Regent itself. The hotel has 175 rooms and suites across three wings: Venezia, Aqua and Baia. If that still isn't enough, Tivat comes to the rescue, since the town starts right behind the marina. And here's how far the nearest airports are:

That's especially handy for guests flying in from abroad: Tivat airport is only about ten minutes from the hotel. Airport pickups and transfers are best left to your planner, especially when guests arrive on different flights and through different airports.

How much does a Regent Porto Montenegro wedding cost?

Let's be honest from the start: there's no set price for a wedding at the Regent. The hotel's official page currently lists no wedding packages. Instead, it offers separate wedding menus, drinks packages and cakes. Old packages with prices still float around online, but they're long out of date, so don't plan around them. The budget is made up of several parts:

• Menu and drinks. These are priced per person, so the total depends first of all on your guest count.
• The space. A garden or hall at the hotel, or perhaps the Jetty 2 pier or a marquee in Marina Park.
• Decor and flowers. Florists, furniture and styling are often brought in from outside for weddings.
• Accommodation. Rooms for you and your guests over the wedding days.
• Music, photo and video. A host, a DJ or musicians and, of course, someone to capture the day.
• The planner. The person who brings all of this together into one quote and one calm day.

Getting legally married in Tivat

In Porto Montenegro you can marry legally, not just hold a symbolic ceremony. Your marriage is conducted by the matičar, the civil registrar from Tivat. You both need to be 18 or over, and you'll need two witnesses at the ceremony.

You apply in advance, and your documents have to be translated and certified.
