Returning from our European trip, we decided to stop in Venice for two days. Before that, we have been here several times in spring and autumn, but not once in winter. All in all, it was a great idea.
For the first time, we decided to stop right on the island and park the car in the parking there. There are several large parking lots on the island, but in summer it is difficult to find a free place. In winter, everything turned out to be simple, especially since we arrived on a weekday and at one in the morning.
We were extremely lucky with the weather throughout the trip. There were only two rainy days in the whole month. Venice was also gorgeous, sunny and windless. It’s cold, of course, but it’s winter.
There are many other advantages to visiting in winter: there are almost no people. Of course, also due to the covid and the fact that Italy is basically closed for tourists (as we found out if you fly by plane), there were no posts on the roads.
Hotels give big discounts. We chose a very budget option closer to the packing, because we arrived late. It turned out 50 euros / day with discounts. The staff in the restaurants are relaxed and very friendly.
There are really not many people. This allowed us to finally visit the Church of San Marco, where there are usually very long queues. Entrance 3 euro/person. But it turned out that were needed masks N95, which, of course, we did not have. But, before we had time to turn around, we were told to wait, checked the Green passes and gave out the necessary masks. For plus 7 euros, you can go to the museum and climb to the roof, which offers a view of the square.
